AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! My hearing blew out when my wife was asking, "Why is the GPS telling you to get off Bear Valley Road? With a little hesitation and trying to find an answer that this is a new route to the Grand Canyon, I had to give her the answer that made our love stronger than ever. And Yes...all I had to say was: We're going to Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Victorville. If you are coming from Los Angeles/Orange/San Diego or even from Las Vegas, there is a likely chance that you will be driving on the I-15 Freeway. Every Holiday weekend brings high traffic through Victorville/Barstow. Well, it has been years since I have driven through and did not realize how much more developed land had surfaced through this area. Located off the I-15 Exit at Bear Valley Road on the southwest side of the freeway, you will find the Cracker Barrel. Still can't find it?! Well, Cracker Barrel even advertised a large sign right above the freeway for those driving through. When the announcement broke in February 2017, that the Golden State would get their 1st Cracker Barrel. They had projected to open it late part of 2017. The world stopped for my wife when it was announced. I am in the construction field and I knew it would be later....I even thought later 2018. Then it opened in February 2018. Let the games begin with our stomachs! My wife introduced me to Cracker Barrel back in Denver and now we are in the hunt to visit every one. The layout of this Cracker Barrel is very similar to many various ones throughout the United States. The storefront is how you imagine as a country store with a lot of rocker chairs up front. You'll need to check in with a lady with a tablet who is taking names for seating arrangements. Since we came in around 11am-12pm and on a Thanksgiving Friday, it was sure to be busy. We had waited about 30 minutes for a seat. You can walk in and look at the cool merchandise that Cracker Barrel offers. However, there is one merchandise item that most, if not all, Cracker Barrel location have...items specific that store. We have visited Colorado, Oregon, and Maryland's Cracker Barrels. The closest thing was UCLA Merchandise representing SoCal. We were called and brought into the main dining area. Escape from the city and into the large community area. There are lots of cool historic memorabilia with guitars, rifles, and classic photos. The one part that you can't miss is the large fireplace. We were seated and introduced to our fun waitress, Tania. She called my wife, mama throughout our dining service. She brought a little home feel to our stay. She was one of the highlight of our visit as she also saved me some moolah trying to find the right pricing. The menu variety is awesome and one of the options that I love is the Monday thru Friday Lunch Specials that Cracker Barrel offers. Tania took our drink menu and my wife ordered a bottle of Stewart's Orange Cream Soda ($3.99). I ordered an unlimited refill glass of Black Cherry Soda ($2.99). Cracker Barrel in Portland disappointed in portion size, but the Victorville location knows that we love large portions. My wife ordered the Fancy Fixin Catfish ($12.99) with a side of corn and carrots. I ordered the Friday Lunch Special called the Pick 2 Lunch with a Grilled Chicken Salad & Clam Chowder ($5.99). That's a lot! I even added a Parfait and Tania gave me a special pricing from the kid's menu to save money. The wait was about 15-20 minutes as this was a busy lunch holiday. We were brought our drinks and I loved my Black Cherry Soda. It is basically a Shirley Temple. My wife got her Stewart's Orange Cream Soda and she was already having a great lunch start. Our food came out and we got stares from other tables on what we ordered. Tania made sure we were satisfied and even brought some of Cracker Barrel's Famous Apple Butter for the biscuits. While my meal wasn't necessarily country, it sure felt amazing. My Grilled Chicken Salad was simple and delicious. The portion is beyond what I expected. Of course, I finished it. The clam chowder was creamy and hit the spot to keep me a little warm. To top off the meal was my favorite. I am used to ordering the Fresh Start Sampler, but I wanted one of the main items of it: Fresh Fruit n' Vanilla Yogurt Parfait ($4.29). I will always order this Yogurt when I am at a Cracker Barrel. My overall visit was great. When Tania took her break, service went downhill. We asked for a box many times and never got a box from the other hosts. I was disappointed as we had to look for Tania, but she wasn't coming back. I am glad we got her and I hope to have her again for our service. Cracker Barrell is here in California and we all know where it is on our way to Las Vegas! The Yelp Journey you take is an inspiration for others.
