We happened to get lucky on a busy busy Saturday evening after a quick phone call to see if they could squeeze us in! Luckily we did, because the place was heaving when we finally arrived! As you're seated, the waiter brings you a plate of cut up bread (baguette style) with a delicious aioli- I'm pretty sure it's a freebie but either way, it was delicious! Their drinks menu is pretty wonderful, I spied a frozen margarita on there but what I really loved seeing was all their G&T options- there's only a few but they were all pretty fun and unique! They are also incredibly generous with their gin (also their gin of choice is the Bombay), and it arrives super quickly in an enormous bucket sized goblet. As a gin lover, I am not complaining, merely declaring that I'll be back for many more of these! I only managed to snap one quick picture- which was one of the starters they have called: The Plank! It came with another bread plate which we inhaled gladly! Everything on the plank was good.. and do yourself a service and pay the extra few euros for the extra lobster tail! When our surf and turf arrived, we'd inhaled it before I remembered to take more photos- but I can tell you in words, it was excellent! Beautifully presented on a wooden board before it was shattered with (hard to use but awesome) red wrenches! Steak was cooked to perfection- medium rare but perfectly rested. Only thing missing to make it a truly American dining experience? Butter sauce!!!!!!!!!! Now this pop-up restaurant only has another 6ish months to go in Amsterdam but hopefully, it'll stick around for much longer!

Surfing in on the burger/lobster trend is De Crazy Kreeft, a pop-up restaurant in De Pijp. I came here for dinner with other awesome Yelpers, and though the ambiance was great, the lack of consistency between this time and the last time these Yelpers were here was a bit disappointing. Currently, I still prefer Red for the surf & turf trend (better food, but preppier crowd). Food: 3/5 They have 3 surf & turf menus designed for 2 people, and we ordered the rib-eye with lobster. The rib-eye was tasty and I prefer it to the tournedos because there was more texture and chew. The lobster was also tasty with mayo served on the side. All meals are served with salad and fries. However, the portions were so small that we were still quite hungry afterwards so Guy C. ordered another burger. My issue was that the fries were significantly bigger the last time some of these Yelpers were here. And this applied to many other things as well, the burger was served on Turkish bread this time instead of a burger bun (like last time); the cheese platter was smaller this time. Ambiance: 4/5 The restaurant is designed to feel like you are on a beach; there is literally sand at the bar! It has a very nice relaxing vibe and is a super fun place to have dinner with your friends. Or perhaps happy hour? Service: 3/5 The staff were polite & friendly, even jesting with us a bit. Value: 2/5 For our surf & turf menu, it cost €40 (for 2 people). At first glance that seems like a great deal but it was clear the price was because there wasn't a lot of food and it wasn't filling. Also because everything was smaller this time, I felt jilted.
