Two of the best wood fired pizzas we’ve had. Exceptional hand made dough, crunchy crusts and quality toppings. Music choice pretty good too. Well worth a visit. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

Attended a birthday function at Culture which was booked for 40 people. Two other large functions were also booked at the same time. On arrival, a sign was on display that "We are understaff (sic)". To say that our experience was bad was an understatement. The layout of the space means the line to order food goes to the narrow entrance, so when you arrive you can't get past people to find a seat. Then because of the sheer numbers, people waited, without exaggeration, 30 minutes in line to order the food. We ordered pizzas and nachos for the two small children in attendance at 7.15pm. After an hour of waiting, our enquiry as to the meal was met with a hostile "can't you read, we are understaffed?" The items arrived at 9.05 and the nachos were burned. At 9.15, people who were still waiting on pizzas were notified by phone that their orders had been refunded as they had run out of pizza dough. At around 9.30pm, we noticed the kitchen light has gone off, while some of our guests had not been served (including the guest of honour, and guests who travelled from Melbourne and still had to drive home). When we asked again, we were again met with hostility and disgruntled staff before they turned the light back on and resumed cooking. The guest of honour was last to be served, at 10.05pm, after a 2.5 hour wait. I have not even mentioned the bar scenario.... To my surprise, several locals at our gathering expressed that this was not the first time they had experienced these sorts of delays and attitudes. Colac is a small town, and I was genuinely surprised that this happened as word gets around pretty quickly with this sort of service. Busy nights and understaffing is common in hospitality, and I urge the management to make several urgent changes to their practise to improve: 1. Replace your ordering system with a table QR code ordering system. Your layout means that people are currently separated from their parties for extended periods of time when ordering, and this would clear your entranceway for arriving patrons. 2. Improve communication. If you have large bookings and know there are issues, attempt to manage expectations through clear communication. 3. Have managing staff take accountability. After hours of waiting, junior staff were sent to deliver the food. We did what we could to reassure the young serving staff that we understood but you could tell they were nervous about approaching patrons in these conditions. Additionally, no apologies were made by the managing staff nor any attempts to smooth over hungry patrons - a couple of bowls of chips or a garlic bread spread among some tables would have gone a long way. As it currently stands there is no way I'd be inclined to organise a function there. I hope that the Culture team can take this feedback on board and deliver better service to the Colac community.
