Every aspect in judging a fast food restaurant is mostly very good with Culver's. My only gripe is the food isn't always prepared correctly. Frankly, I blame that on new hires (less than 25 years old) who have no regard because they weren't taught that characteristic. I had read an internet article listing great chains for fast food fish and chips and was very surprised to find Culver's on the list. Since there's one 15 minutes from my house, I decided to see if they could deliver on the meal or if it was just internet hype. The premises were exceptionally clean inside and outside. Cleanliness is a consistent brand point for Culver's and this location looks like it was just opened brand new even though it has apparently been here a while. They have a 2-piece and a 3-piece battered fried fish and chips dinner. The prices were a bit on the high side for a humble pub staple. I got the three-piece for $19+, thinking it was pretty expensive but didn't want to buy the 2-piece and end up hungry. I ordered the meal to-go and ate it at the restaurant so I could easily take leftovers home. Turns out that there was no hype (or maybe we could say that the hype was true...). The meal was extremely satisfying. The fries were as expected, nothing special. On the general scale of fried fish, though, the meal I had at this Culver's is close to the top. The fried batter was super crispy--close to the best I've ever had on fish. Only a beer batter would top it. I was hungry when I arrived but still didn't eat the 3rd piece of fish. Two pieces plus fries was plenty and very filling; I only ate about 2/3 of the fries and took the rest home. I'm glad I got the 3-piece meal because I was able to see how well it reheated the following day. The air frier has been a Godsend and is the perfect way to reheat fried chicken. (Mine has a door instead of a basket/bucket which is a fantastic and much better design.) I let the fish come up to room temperature first, and the Culver's fish batter responded very well to a 400º hot blast for 4 minutes. It was every bit as good as when it was freshly made. Fish at $6 per medium-sized piece is pretty expensive. If it was $2 less, I'd probably eat Culver's fried fish once a week. NOTE: Culver's has packets of quality malt vinegar available at no extra charge. However, there was a 65¢ charge for the tartar sauce. That seems pricey unless you know that the serving size is an unusually large 2 fluid ounces. I really wish the server had told me this or shown me a packet, which is why I deducted a star on Service. I love to load tartar sauce onto fried fish and dip fries into it, so ordered 6 packs of tartar sauce in order to have enough. Due to the relatively huge size, I only used two packets on all three pieces of fish plus fries. (For reference, a Taco Bell hot sauce packet is 0.5 ounces versus 2.0 oz for the tartar sauce.) Now I have 4 mini tubs of extra tartar sauce to remind me to go back to Culver's for more fish...but I need to remember to take a tub with me each time. Not a huge hassle, but I'd much rather buy the right amount on the spot. On the plus side, the tartar sauce quality is comparable to Heinz or Kraft, so pretty good--definitely a cut above typical fast food condiments. I'll try the mashed potatoes next time instead of fries to stretch one tub over two pieces of fish. MANAGER: Please make sure that cashiers show the tartar sauce package to customers so we can order intelligently. It's literally 4x larger than most people are expecting. P.S. It's pointless and foolhardy to order fried food to go and then complain that it's disappointing, so ignore the reviews of that nature. Fried food needs to be eaten IMMEDIATELY. A closed container traps steam and predictably makes the crust damp, which isn't really the restaurant's fault (though they do need to provide a vented container). For example, an Outback Steakhouse Bloomin' onion is amazing when fresh but basically inedible after about 6 minutes. If you have more than a 5-minute drive after picking up the fried fish meal, make sure you have an air frier available to crisp it back up before eating. Happily, this can even be the next day. There was a time when Culver’s was a bright and shining star of Lecanto . The food is still very good but the cleanliness of the facility is not up to any reasonable standard. The rest rooms are very dirty and appear not to be cleaned thoroughly each day. The floors throughout the facility are not swept and debris is widespread. Let’s face it, there are more than a few slobs in this world, thus the management needs to be more vigilant about the cleanliness of the facility. Also, it was literally freezing inside. Even the employees were complaining. The manager needs to step it up! We will try again to see if constructive reviews are responded too! Thank you. . . .
