Unwelcoming tired pub with very sticky tables and zero atmosphere. Keep walking there are slightly better pubs down the street. Price per person: £1–10 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1

Astonishingly describing itself as a cocktail bar, The Cygnet is actually a spit-and-sawdust drinkers' pub incongruously situated in the otherwise quietly genteel seaside town of Hythe. Video games and big TV screens showing sports. No cask ales, unsurprisingly. Its USP - and I quote - is "taking care of your husband while you go shopping". He - and you - deserve better. Price per person: £1–10 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
