My Girlfriend and I went to Dahu Peking Duck Restaurant yesterday 22 jun 15.Welcomed by the Hawker and tempted by the Cha siu bao We decided to enter.Many people have complained about the décor as being out of date. This wasn't an immediate issue of mine as I had been romanticizing about having food at any China town since my teen years. We both sat down and the 1st waitress handed us menus.The waitress had a very callous vibe about her. My girlfriend and I perused the impressive quantity of meal selections and made our order. Cha siu Bao (bbq pork bun) Peking duck , bbq ribs and a bok choy infused with enokitaki mushrooms. We also had a pot of chrysanthemum tea. Whilst we waited a good while for the Cha siu bao as entrée my Gf decided to go to the toilet, during this time the 2nd waitress tells me the BBQ pork bun and duck will now come out together. The manager then plods along with a dish plonks it down on the table and I look at the plate (wait a minute) ...... the plate belonged to the diners sat behind us *the only other people in the restaurant at the time* eventually our bbq bun arrives shortly followed by the duck and then finally the bbq ribs and vege dish. I have to say disappointingly the best dish was the entree. The duck was cold, the sauce was crap. The bbq ribs were literal scraps and had no "saucyness" to them . The vege dish ...... lets just say I could get that at my local chinese shop and it probably would taste better.during our meal the Chef came out of the kitchen. Both he and the manager had a massive argument in Mandarin/cantonese which was a bit uncomfortable.10 minutes later waitress 1 comes up to our table, eftpos machine in hand with the manager behind her and tells us we need to pay now ... DURING OUR MEAL.. intially i was mad enough to consider getting dessert, but no , they wanted us out of there. They seemed very cold about it as well. Basically they wanted us out of there . It's quite easy to say, I won't be returning to this restaurant ever again and dissuade anybody from wasting their time and money.I do however highly recommend Quanjude on Queenstreet.
