Incredible quaint sized Japanese Korean restaurant made a huge impression. Located in a plaza on the West side of Winston Churchill Blvd. just North of Dundas St. W. in Mississauga, Dai Ichi Sushi Japanese Restaurant prepares an excellent array of Japanese and Korean fare sure to please the palate of the most discerning connoisseur of Aisian cuisine. A family run business since 2001, this long standing restaurant knows how to check all the boxes with respect to ensuring excellent customer satisfaction. Firstly, their menu selection is somewhat extensive with a good selection of lunch and dinner items, specialty rolls, sashimi, sushi, and udon soups. The price points are very reasonable which range from moderate and competitive with other Japanese restaurants, to expensive and yet in line accordingly with market prices for food items such as Blue Fin Tuna. The food quality made a very big impression with us. We selected the Bulgogi and Spicy Bulgogi lunch specials and were imediately impressed by the quality of the beef. It was definitely top grade and most likely AAA, tender melt-in-your-mouth, lean cut, superbly prepared and absolutely delicious. Tempura vegetables may have been breaded in a panko mix which resulted in a well balanced taste of vegetable and batter, and possessed a small residual amount of oil from the deep frying process but without the aftertaste commonly experienced with deep fried foods. The quality of the food sampled was outstanding and is definitely reason enough to visit this restaurant and enjoy their food offerings that are unmistakingly prepared with pride. However, unlike some Japanese restaurants located throughout the GTA, value-for-money was dissapointedly lacking. Presented in a bento box, the quantity of bean sprouts was exceptionally small, and the serving size of noodles and green beans were inadequate. The amount of rice appeared to be about half the amount we would typically receive at other Asian restaurants. Though Miso soup was served with our selections, other food items such as salads and California rolls were not included with the bento box meals that we would normally receive elsewhere. Keep in mind that some of these food items are to serve as condiments to, or act as a compliment to the main meal item. In all fairness, it should be emphasized that the opinion shared here is subjective and should in no way detract from the excellent food quality we experienced. The overall ambience of the restaurant easily transports you across the Pacific to a traditional Japanese styled setting aimed toward providing patrons with a memorable dining experience. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing with light wood trim and Japanese styled decor incorporated throughout. The booths and priviate dining room areas provide a feeling of warmth, intimacy and comfort. The overall interior design is inviting and successfully utilizes a Japanese motif that makes it very distinct from so many restaurants today that feel sterile, and absent of character. Last but not least is customer service. As a long-standing family run business it is quite apparent that their people skills and understanding of hospitality management is well hoaned. All staff were very well mannered, coradial, attentive, and most importantly, friendly. We observed many smiles, a willingness to get to know patrons, and the overall consistent delivery of an excellent level of service to customers. As stated earlier, Dai Ichi definitely knows how to check all the boxes with respect to being and excellent restaurant. Overall, where they may be lacking in value for money with some dishes, they more than make up for it with the high level of food quality and preparation, food taste and freshness, the restaurant ambience, and excellent customer service. I had a wonderful dining experience at this Korean-Japanese restaurant! The food was exceptional, with a perfect blend of flavors from both cuisines. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The restaurant itself had a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. Highly recommend for anyone craving delicious fusion cuisine in a comfortable setting!
