One of the worst fast-food experiences I’ve had in a long time — and honestly a serious concern for basic food safety. I ate at Del Taco earlier today, and it ended up making me extremely sick. I actually threw up not long after, and it was the only thing I had eaten that day. That alone was alarming enough, but what made it worse was what I witnessed inside the restaurant. Food safety standards exist for a reason. While waiting for my order, I watched an employee repeatedly running in and out of the restroom area and then immediately returning to handle doors, counters, and equipment without properly washing their hands. From there, those same surfaces and tools are passed along through the kitchen workflow until the food ends up in a customer’s bag. Seeing that kind of carelessness makes it a lot easier to understand how someone could end up sick. The cooks working the line may be doing their best, but when basic hygiene breaks down anywhere in the chain, the entire system fails. No one expects perfection from a fast-food spot — but basic sanitation and hand-washing shouldn’t be optional. Customers trust that the people handling their food are following the most basic safety standards. After this experience, I won’t be coming back. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
