Ordered the sisig and adobe which was both alright. The sisig was a bit to the salty side while the adobo was sweeter than I expected. There was no cooling in the cafe itself making it as hot as it is outside. Despite that the food was served quite quickly.

I came in with high hopes, but left feeling a bit disappointed. I’ve not gone to many Filipino restaurants in Australia, so I was looking forward to finding somewhere that I could take friends to experience food that I grew up loving.

The staff was super friendly, but the food just didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The adobo wasn’t bad, it just tasted more like paksiw made with Mang Tomas rather than adobo. In writing this review, I’ve looked at other reviews/photos, and the dish we received was definitely different, so it may have just been today? Similarly, the sisig lacked flavour besides the overriding chilli. I now see that there was a sizzling option (which would have made it 10x better) which I mistakenly thought was the one we’d get. So that was my bad.

If you’re curious to give it a shot, I’d definitely recommend going in. The food is reasonably priced, and the staff are lovely. I just think my experience was clouded by my disappointment.

Descanso Cafe mixes up standard cafe fare with a selection of classic Filipino meals, all the silogs, sisig and adobos you could want. You can get a classic burger, steak or a latte at Descanso, but the thing we are here to try are their Filipino meals. There's a scattering of Pinoy eateries in the inner west, so having one close to us in Glebe is great.
