If I could give zero stars I would! This by far has been the worst dining experience that I've had in Chicago. My review is a lengthy one so I broke it down into sections. 1- Security: Upon arrival I was met at the door by 2 security personnel saying that a $10 cover charge would be required. Seriously ‍?!? What kind of business charges cover to eat at a restaurant?? 2- Bar Experience: After paying the cover and getting inside, I sat at the bar waiting for the rest of my group to arrive. I asked the bartender for a cranberry vodka and she looked at me like she didn't know WTF that was and proceeded to ask, "so that's cranberry juice and vodka right" . Once she figured it out, she proceeded to serve me the drink in a 6 ounce plastic cup with a huge neon straw that you would use for like a smoothie. How do you not have glassware and proper straws at what is supposed to be a fine dining establishment???? 3- The Venue: The rest of my group arrived about 10 minutes later and were seated in the back. Don't let the IG page fool you, that place is tiny!!!! They have cheap backyard lights hanging from the ceiling and fake grass walls everywhere. This place was not giving fine dining ambiance at all. But let's talk about that service... 4- The Menu: The waitress seemed nice enough, and took our orders relatively quickly. It wasn't that hard for us to decide, seeing as how they only have variations of the same 5 items (catfish, chicken , shrimp , fries , and can't forget about those waffles ). The food itself took about an hour to come out and in the meantime they gave us (and everyone else in the restaurant) free fries while we waited. 5- Restaurant or Club??: While waiting for our food, the music was blaring! It was so loud that we could barely hear the person next to us. There was no space for a dance floor in the dining area so everyone was confused on why the music was blasting. 6- The Food: The food was decent (or so I thought, read #8), filling, and came out hot but it wasn't anything to write home about and definitely not worth putting up with the rest of the hassle. The food was served in plastic food baskets with plastic silverware. Again, it's about the optics. You are requiring that ppl be dressed up and be charged cover only to not live up to fine dining standards smh. 7- The Bill: When we first sat down, we asked if the bill could be split individually to which the waitress said yes. Only for her to give us a bill with everyone's items on it. Not everyone was comfortable with splitting (plus the bill was wrong) so we asked if the waitress could split and even wrote on the back of the receipt what each person ordered. She took the old receipt and literally never returned. We waited for an hour before we just left. 8- Food Poisoning: I got sick with food poisoning when I got home due to the food!! Summary to the owner: 1- Stop charging a cover charge when ppl are coming to your establishment to pay for food 2- Decide if you want to be a club or restaurant, because you don't have the space for both 3- Train your staff to know how to make basic drinks 4- Get actual glassware, silverware, plates, to-go boxes and bar straws 5- Turn the air off in October 6- Change the name, because "Dinner and a Movie" implies that there is either a cinematic theme or somehow this dining experience will be something like out of a movie. I can agree if the theme is horror!!! 7- It's fine it the premise of the restaurant is brunch at night, but if you're only going to have 5 food items then do it WELL so ppl don't end up sick And before anyone says folks are hating because this is a Black owned establishment... Plot twist!! I too am Black! This business caters to the ratchets, not folks who actually know what a good dining experience is.
