I visited the Dumpling Factory in Honolulu with my family for Boys’ Day, a Japanese holiday that celebrates boys and their health and happiness. My daughter expected Japanese-style dumplings, but they turned out to be more Chinese in style. The dumplings were fresh and definitely the highlight of the meal. They were on the smaller side, but flavorful. The pork dumplings were probably the best overall, the beef dumplings were solid, and there was an interesting chicken and corn dumpling that stood out in a good way. The pork buns were good too, soft and tasty. The best side dish was the pickled cucumbers, which were excellent, and the edamame was good though a bit spicy. Unfortunately, there weren’t many plain options, so my younger daughter, who’s a picky eater, mostly just had rice, which honestly was awful. What surprised me most was that we were basically the only people in there at 7 p.m. on a Tuesday. At first that seemed shocking, especially because the food itself had some good moments, but once you sit there for a while, you kind of understand why. The ambiance is almost nonexistent, the ordering-through-an-app setup feels cold and impersonal, and there’s just no real energy to the place. Service was okay, but nothing memorable. No alcohol, no vibe, no reason to hang out. Overall, I’d give it about a 5 out of 10. The dumplings were fresh and worth trying once, but I wouldn’t dine in again. Food: 4 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2

I had a bad feeling when we came it was empty during prime dinner time. After eating here, realized why it was empty - it was the worst Chinese food/dumplings I ever had. We ordered the pork leak bao, cucumber salad, pan fried beef onion dumplings , braised pork belly over rice and zha jiang mian. Pork leak bao 9/10: The only thing we liked was the pork leak bao Cucumber salad 2/10: one of the worst cucumber salad I had in dumpling restaurants Pan fried onion dumplings 5/10: this one looked promising but lacked flavor Braised pork belly over rice 1/10: one of the worst braised pork belly I ever had. The pork was super tough to chew , had to spit it out Zha Jian Mian 3/10: didn’t like this one either Service 2/10: Waiter was doing the bare minimum and no energy at all, not a single smile, hi, thank you, or bye. When our pork bao came out fresh and hot and she put it in front of our baby in reaching distance when it’s the only item on the table. No common sense. Won’t be back. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Parking space: Somewhat difficult to find parking

Best dumplings i have ever had. I got the shrimp, pork chicken dumplings. The spicy oil was very spicy. Great!!!
