Saturday morning we can be found in search of the delicious taco, and today we visited El Buen Gusto Mexican Cafe. Actually, we visited last week, but we were advised that the wait for takeout would be 40 minutes, so we decided to look elsewhere. But today, we phoned our order in advance, and found our order waiting 30 minutes after the call. This restaurant sits within a strip center twixt other retails, is smallish in scale, seating maybe five tables. A queue of several people waited outside, for takeout, and for indoor dining. This is a family operation, and not really a well appointed restaurant: it is typical of many "mom and pop" neighborhood restaurants. The staff is welcoming, and knew many of the patrons by name. I looked through an open door and spied 3 or 4 gentlemen tending the stoves, busy as bees. Our fare was again, simple: bean and cheese, bacon and egg and ham and egg. The eggs were cooked just to our liking, not overdone, and the ham was the real deal....unlike the last ham and egg we had at another restaurant: sliced lunch meat....boo! The actual star in our opinion was the salsa. The salsa roja was spiced perfectly, not too high on the Scoville scale, and it was just delicious. The salsa verde was a bit bland for my taste, but my lady found it....ok. The corn and flour tortillas passed my taste test! I was particularly impressed with the customer service: the very friendly and welcoming staff. This must be a popular neighborhood restaurant, for as I mentioned, many of the patrons were known to the staff. As for the pandemic issue, masking is the rule, and the proprietors signage prominently tells of phone call, curb side pick up. One other item: unlike some establishments, the staff at El Buen Gusto gives one an immediate heads up regarding lag times for food. I thought this a considerate detail. So, if one happens to be in the neighborhood, this restaurant would well satisfy that phenomenon: taco on the brain! Enjoy!
