1 Star — AVOID THIS PLACE (BREACH OF NZ CONSUMER LAW) Absolutely unacceptable and misleading service from Engineers Cafe. This is now the SECOND time this has happened. I placed an order, payment was taken immediately, and only AFTER payment I was told the item is “out of stock.” This is not just poor service — this is misleading and potentially unlawful under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986 (New Zealand). Under NZ law: • Businesses must supply goods as advertised and within a reasonable time, OR • Clearly inform customers BEFORE taking payment if items are unavailable Taking payment first and then cancelling due to “out of stock” is completely unacceptable and misleading conduct. What actually happens here:. They accept orders for items they don’t have. They take your money immediately. Then they cancel and leave you chasing refunds This has happened twice — which shows this is not a one-off mistake but a repeated failure or deliberate negligence. WARNING TO ALL CUSTOMERS:. Do NOT order from this place. You risk losing time, dealing with refund delays, and receiving nothing If this continues, I will be escalating this to the Commerce Commission NZ for misleading practices. Plenty of reliable restaurants exist — this is NOT one of them. Avoid at all costs. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: $60–70 Vegetarian options: No Dietary restrictions: No Parking space: Not sure

Overall, the food was just okay, not great. The porotta portion was extremely small — it should be called a “coin porotta” because of its size. The chicken biryani had a strong pineapple-like flavor, which was disappointing. The prawns roast was the only dish that stood out as good. The beef fry and chicken fry were average and nothing special.
