A genuinely standout addition to the area and somewhere that feels thoughtfully put together from the moment you walk in. The space itself strikes a perfect balance between relaxed and refined, with a calm, considered aesthetic that makes it equally suited to a casual catch-up or a more intentional dining experience. The food is where it really shines. Every dish feels carefully curated, with a clear focus on quality ingredients and well-balanced flavours. There’s a creativity to the menu that never feels overworked, just confident, seasonal cooking done exceptionally well. Presentation is elegant without being fussy, and each plate feels like it’s been given real attention. Service is another highlight. The team are warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaged, striking that ideal balance between attentive and relaxed. You feel well looked after without anything feeling forced or overly formal, which really adds to the overall experience. There’s also a great atmosphere to the place. It has that understated buzz that makes you want to linger a bit longer, whether for another glass of wine or just to enjoy the setting. It’s the kind of spot that feels effortlessly cool without trying too hard. All in all, Field Notes is a beautifully executed concept that delivers on every level. I made a booking over a week in advance and was told the day before my reservation that the restaurant had “experienced major structural issues” over most of the week, causing them to “no longer be able to continue trading at the site”. Why did the FOH team not communicate cancellations until the very last minute? Especially as I had messaged on Instagram, emailed multiple times, and remarked on my reservation that it was for a special occasion. Deeply disappointing customer service. I’m still getting paid social ads for the restaurant too, despite it being “no longer able to continue trading”.
