This might be a bit of a long one, but here we go... I booked my 30th birthday party in the Bamboo Lounge at Fontaine's bar, end of October. As the previous reviews have stated, the venue is absolutely lovely although could be a little cleaner (a lot of thick cobwebs, tables not wiped properly). The décor and general vibe were great. We also had an amazing bartender, Greg, who did a great job and made us feel welcome. I cannot say the same for Ruby, the manager / owner, I'm not too sure. I do work in events, which might make me a little more specific. However, I do feel that the service and attitude provided by Ruby was unacceptable, both leading up to the event but also after. Despite being very specific on some things / rules, she was not easy to reach. When I asked to have a call with her to plan the event, I was told that she only does call with people celebrating their wedding / bigger events. There was also miscommunication on the champagne / wine corkage as she never communicated that there was a limit, when I wanted to bring 6 more bottles of champagne on top of the 2 magnums I had mentioned previously. We agreed and paid for me to bring 12bottles of wines. We were quoted £1500 minimum spend to reach on the night. Corkage was not to be included, which was absolutely fine. Before the event, we pre-ordered almost £900 of food (which was not great). Pre-ordered rum punches (around £250). Paid additionally multiple fees, £50 for bringing a cake and being provided with plates and spoons, £80 to access the space earlier, and £150 returnable deposit. I asked for a recap invoice and was told it would cost £30 to get!! Ruby's attitude made us feel as if she was not interested in my party. On the night, despite clearly seeing me, she did not say hello to me or my family. It felt more like I was a burden rather than appreciating our business. The minimum spend on the night was well reached at the end of event. Finally, it turned out that we did not drink the wines we had pre-paid corkage for (£120), so i emailed Ruby and told her we had a great evening and ask what is the procedure for the refund. I was told to call Friday or Saturday between 19.00 and 19.30 which I did the following Saturday. Ruby responded that she was not next to the card machine so she will call back. She never did. I called a week later, at the same time she wanted. Ruby picked up the phone and told me in a very rude manner that she was busy and did not have the time to do the refund for the corkage that "we didnt even use". I then reminded her she also owed the returnable deposit (total £270). She got even more annoyed and told me to send card details over email, which obviously is not safe. I ended up sending my bank details and received the transfer 2 days ago, 26 days after the day of my event. Ruby clearly picks and chooses who she will be nice and helpful to. Maybe people that are spending more money, or that she deems deserves her attention. I work for a big venue in the city, which offers private rooms from the same price I paid at Fontaines bar, up to very big budget events but I treat all of my clients with the same respect and professionalism. I wish I read the reviews before booking, she even responds to them with more abuse, which is quite shocking, frankly. Think twice before booking your event, hopefully, Ruby likes you and offers you a better service than me and many others received. Pauline. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: £60–70
