What a lovely dining experience. At a time when restaurants that cater to vegans are struggling, Forage remains a highlight of vegan fine dining (and they have plenty of omnivorous options as well). Incredible food made from local ingredients, kind and informed waitstaff, and cozy atmosphere. I can't wait to come back and try the vegan prize fixe again soon. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: Wonderful vegan 5-course prix fixe

Thank you so much—this really means a lot. I’m glad the vegan tasting menu stood out and that the food, service, and atmosphere all came together for you. Looking forward to having you back for another one soon.

My friend was able to have the omnivore tasting menu, which was also nice because we didn’t have to both do the same option. We added the wine pairing and the vegan cheese course, and that ended up being our favorite part of the meal. Even though my friend isn’t vegan, we both loved the cashew cheese — it was honestly delicious. Dessert was probably my second favorite course. I finished every course and appreciated the seasonal approach to the menu. Overall, I was happier with the experience as a whole than with the individual dishes, since I did go in with slightly higher expectations for the food itself. The space felt intimate and dimly lit, which created a nice atmosphere, although the tables were a bit close together. I’d still love to come back and try more of their vegan options from the regular menu. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Large vegetarian selection

Thank you for the thoughtful review — and I’m really glad you enjoyed the experience overall. I love that the vegan cheese course was a favorite (that cashew cheese wins over a lot of non-vegans). And I appreciate the honest feedback as well — it helps us keep refining the menu. Hope you come back soon to explore more of the vegan dishes on the regular menu.

Farm-to-table. Zero waste. True hospitality. Forage embellishes itself with the exact buzzwords that Cambridge and Somerville locals love, yet the actual execution didn’t quite live up to the marketing. I came in for a work dinner a while back, and honestly, none of us left the table satisfied. By design, Forage runs a highly experimental, rustic kitchen. The menu changes frequently, dictated entirely by whatever local farms happen to drop at their back door that day. It is a romantic philosophy, but the kitchen's technique didn’t quite meet the vision. We ordered a few things including the peppercorn steak, pickled vegetables, and the schnitzel. While the schnitzel was decent enough, almost everything else felt unrefined. Almost like an ambitious friend testing out bold new recipes at a dinner party on the fly. The kitchen also took some massive risks with flavor pairings that didn’t quite pay off. For dessert, we opted for a strawberry dish, but it was hit with a smokiness so incredibly intense and overpowering that I had to throw in the towel after just two bites. The overarching, sustainable concept that Forage is pushing for is genuinely admirable. But with a menu that feels like a daily lottery system, the value just wasn’t there. The prices were also quite high, and I doubt I’d be willing to come back. Price per person: $100+ Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

Thank you for taking the time to share this—I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback. I hear what you’re saying, and I’m sorry the execution didn’t live up to the vision for you and your group. Our approach is definitely rooted in seasonality and a bit of risk-taking, but that only works if the dishes feel cohesive and satisfying—and it sounds like we missed that balance during your visit. That’s on us. I’m glad you recognized the intention behind what we’re doing, even if it didn’t land, and I’ll be sharing your notes with the team as we keep refining both the cooking and how we present it. I hope you might consider giving us another try down the line.
