Enjoyed the a la carte menu, my favourite was the beef tartare and rockling. If I could come back again I would just have the beef tartare. The caviar oyster bump wasn't worth the pricetag attached to it, so I would skip that, but the service was lovely. My heart rate was extremely elevated after half a glass of white wine, so not sure if my body had reacted badly...the other dishes weren't particularly memorable but the service, atmosphere, decor and architecture makes up for it. I chose Freyja for my husband’s birthday lunch because two of our close friends wanted to celebrate with him, and a CBD location was the most convenient option for everyone. I had previously dined at Freyja twice for dinner and genuinely enjoyed both experiences. For the lunch location, I remembered being impressed by both the food and service. I also knew they offered a reasonably priced lunch set menu, which made it an ideal choice for a birthday lunch gathering. Based on my previous visits, I felt confident recommending the restaurant and was genuinely looking forward to introducing my husband to a place I had enjoyed before. Unfortunately, the experience got off to a disappointing start almost immediately. When we arrived, our two friends were already seated at the table. One of them had brought a birthday cake as a surprise for my husband. Shortly after we sat down, a male staff member approached our table and asked my husband directly, “Do you know who the birthday person is?” I was honestly speechless. If there was any confusion regarding the cake, surely the most logical thing to do would have been to discreetly ask the friend who brought it, who was already seated at the table. Instead, the surprise was ruined before lunch had even begun, which unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the experience. It was such a simple situation to manage, yet it was handled in the most awkward way possible. Unfortunately, the service did not improve from there. The only exception was one female staff member who proactively refilled our water throughout the meal. Aside from her, the service felt poorly trained and lacking in attention to detail. The male waiter rarely checked on our table unless we specifically called him over, and finished plates often remained on the table far longer than they should have. Even after multiple reminders, the table was not cleared promptly. As for the food, it was average at best. Nothing particularly stood out, and certainly nothing memorable enough to make up for the disappointing service experience. I was already aware that the restrooms are located outside the restaurant, so that wasn’t an issue. What really left a lasting impression was the lack of professionalism, initiative, and basic service awareness throughout the lunch. What makes this particularly disappointing is that I was the one who suggested Freyja. Having enjoyed two previous dinner experiences, I expected a similar standard of hospitality. Instead, I left feeling disappointed and somewhat embarrassed that my recommendation for my husband’s birthday celebration turned out this way. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won’t be returning. One final note: for anyone wondering why there are no photos from this visit, it’s simply because the experience left me in such a poor mood that I didn’t feel like taking any. Ironically, the photos attached to this review were taken during one of my previous dinner visits, when I genuinely enjoyed the experience and went out of my way to capture the restaurant at its best. Looking back, they should pay me photographer’s fee. Price per person: $120–140 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes: Beef Tartare

I came here on a Thursday night for a friends birthday, we were made to feel welcome, the staff were all friendly and happy to assist, and the food was delicious. Every dish seemed well thought out, from presentation to flavour to texture! If you’re after a bit of a different menu with locally sourced ingredients I’d recommend stopping by! Price per person: $100–120 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Beef Tartare, Rockling Fish, Waffle with Caviar
