We'd read all the hype and endless foodie reviews, so naturally I arrived fully prepared to be "that person" who wasn't convinced. Being British, I like to think my standards are reasonably high (or maybe I'm just hard to please). I kept waiting for something to disappoint me... but it never really happened. Dinner Club headed to FYRE this weekend and, with six of us at the table, we decided to skip everyone ordering their own meal and instead built a sharing feast so we could experience as much of the menu as possible. It turned out to be the perfect way to dine here. We started with pig croquettes, crispy squid, creamy garlic prawns and chicken liver pâté. The unanimous standout starter for our table was the squid. Light, perfectly crisp and cooked spot on, it was everything great calamari should be. The croquettes disappeared in seconds, the garlic prawns were rich and packed with flavour, and the pâté was silky smooth and delicious. Honestly, there wasn't a weak starter among them. For mains we shared the salmon, barramundi, braised lamb shank, beef cheek rendang, Coral Bay crab pasta and beef ragu. After plenty of discussion around the table, the unanimous favourite was the barramundi. Beautifully cooked with crisp skin and full of flavour, it stole the show. The lamb shank, salmon and both pasta dishes were all excellent too. If we had to nominate a least favourite, it was the beef cheek rendang, but only because something had to come last. It was still a very good dish; it was simply up against some exceptional competition. We probably didn't need the two extra sides of crispy potatoes and house vegetables given the amount of food we'd already ordered, but I'm so glad we did. The potatoes were dangerously good, crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle and impossible to stop picking at. The house vegetables were equally impressive; perfectly cooked and full of flavour. So often sides feel like an afterthought, but these absolutely weren't. They complemented every dish on the table and were worth ordering in their own right. Dessert was shared too, with tiramisu, sticky date pudding and the cheekily named "Worst Chocolate & Amaretti Biscuit Mousse I Ever Made!!!". Our table's favourite was the chocolate mousse, proving the chef was being far too modest with the name. Rich, indulgent and polished, it was the perfect finish to the meal. The sticky date pudding and tiramisu were both excellent too, and once again there wasn't a dessert any of us wouldn't happily order again. One thing that also stood out was the generosity of the serves. Nobody was leaving hungry. The drinks list had plenty of choice, and as a coffee lover I was especially pleased that the coffee wasn't an afterthought either. It was genuinely excellent and the perfect way to finish the evening. What impressed me most was that there wasn't a weak dish on the table. Sharing meant everyone got to try a little of everything, every plate came back virtually empty, and there was plenty of lively debate over our favourites. The service was warm, friendly and relaxed, the atmosphere struck the right balance between polished and welcoming, and the quality of the food absolutely justified the reputation. Sometimes places don't live up to the hype. FYRE did. I can absolutely see why people keep talking about it. We arrived hoping to be impressed, expecting to find something to criticise, and instead left planning what we'll order next time. That's probably the biggest compliment I can give. Good Morning Annette, As you are probably aware I never respond to the positive comments on here, only the negative but you are an exception to the rule. I am massively grateful you came to FYRE last night and the great review you left for our business. Thankyou once again and all the best. John & Rita Xx
