First, Google Maps does NOT know how to get here, don't rely on its directions. The restaurant is in the right place, but you approach from the north, not from the west. If you're on this street 末吉町通 you're on the right track, just walk south on the path between HIbiki and Gion Yakiniku Gyusho Shin. Phew! And then you will be richly rewarded, because you will be in a homely little restaurant with a kind hardworking chef who is master of his craft, and you will be treated to a delicious meal, and you will feel his care and attention with every bite. I'd had a few slightly impersonal meals in Tokyo the week before my most recent visit (I've been twice), and it was such a joy to once again be back in Kyoto for intimate Kaiseki meals. We expected more after glowing reviews of the place. Did not find it to be a particularly amazing kaiseki experience. Staff were friendly, but it seemed to be a place that catered more to foreigners than locals.

Gion Rikichi present dishes in a very simple but tasty way. The ingredients used are of season and fresh. The chef was very friendly, although he speaks limited words of English he would try to describe the ingredients and dishes. We ordered the 11,000 yen dinner set and got 9 dishes including dessert. It was a very good experience. The place was full of Japanese local.
