Hanaki isn’t just one of the best meals I’ve had in Kagoshima, but across Japan. Flavors were out of this world: the chicken wings (both standard, and the Chinese-influenced ‘ma’ version) were killer; the gyoza (both fried and soup) were perfectly cooked; the spicy sour soup was a gnarly blend; and the produce offerings like the tomatoes and salad were fresh and flavored subtly but wonderfully. Beyond the taste, the crowd is eclectic and fun, the ambience is great, and the service is quick, friendly, and class. Do yourself a favor and drop in for a bite, you’d be mad to be anything but fat and happy.
