You know that moment that you crave something more authentic than shopping mall ice cream? Yes! It happened on a Saturday morning while at Franklin Park Mall in Toledo. As luck would have it, a friend of mine and I were at the mall and decided to look for a more authentic handmade place that sells amazing ice cream. That epiphany lead me to my Yelp app and we found Handel's Homemade Ice Cream about 3 miles away. It was definitely a nice treat on a crisp Saturday on August 31, 2019. The ice cream shop looks like it's a converted house of some sort in a small commercial strip mall. You would notice it from the street and we pulled in around 1pm. My friend and I ended up enjoying our ice cream there at the tables next to the store. It was quite nice to be able to enjoy such simple pleasures on the weekend. This experience here at Handel's Homemade Ice Cream store was quick, since it was basically a take out counter service type affair. The service was quick and we got our order within 5 minutes. The prices here were good and probably could had ordered more, if we didn't have to pick up lunch soon after we had the ice cream. For the most part though, coming here for authentic homemade ice cream was one of the highlights of that Saturday afternoon for me. The service was quick and friendly. Quite nice if you are in the Toledo / Sylvania area of Ohio and want some authentic ice cream. It's definitely delicious! The overall experience here at Handel's Homemade Ice Cream was good and fast, while being friendly and professional at the same time. Only weird thing is that they keep opening and closing the window when they need to interact with the customer. It was just weird. I guess they don't want people to hear what goes on inside the store or something. Handel's Homemade Ice Cream is located at 5908 W Sylvania Avenue in Toledo, Ohio. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. As far as parking goes, they have a small parking lot for those of y'all who come here with a private vehicle or a rented one. Not sure about the public transportation system around here, but uber and Lyft can be your alternative if you don't have your own wheels. I was amazed at how much flavors that they offer. Many variations of the classics made me think of how much chocolate variations are in existence today? I ended up buying a pint of the basic chocolate. Nothing fancy and yet it's surprisingly simple. Can't go wrong with creamy and smooth basic chocolate. It was totally worth it. Deliciousness is here at Handel's Homemade Ice Cream. They make it fresh daily, so you know there's good stuff here. For the most part though, the experience here at Handel's Homemade Ice Cream here in Toledo, OH was good, fast, and quite nice. It was nice to enjoy ice cream on a Saturday afternoon with a friend in the area. They have an extensive menu, so you can pick your flavors as fancy or simple as you want them to be. The prices here are cheap enough to where you wouldn't have sticker shock when it came to giving them your cash or credit card. I absolutely loved the creamy texture of the basic chocolate. It was well worth coming here rather than having shopping mall ice cream. According to their website, Handel's has many more locations throughout the USA. So if you are traveling, you can consider going there too to get your ice cream fix. If you are in the area of Toledo, OH, I would recommend coming here and compare what you've been missing. I'll be back if I am in the area again. Definitely not to be missed! 5.0 stars for the overall experience. 5.0 stars for the ice cream. 4.0 stars for the service. Awesome! Support local! A
