We've been to several Harris Teeters in this state and they're all similar, all very clean and great products with lots of sales. We save a lot of money shopping here with their discount program and senior day Thursday. On top of that many times we get 70 cents or more off per gallon of gas through their program.

You're presumed to be a thief if you use the self checkout here. The AI camera will stop the process if you aren't standing in the correct position or if you move some way that triggers it. Then up comes the clerk to review the footage of your checkout.(Where are these clerks when you just want to go thru an old fashioned check out line? Waiting for the AI camera's collaring of another potential criminal...uh....customer?) Once you've been cleared of the accusation that you are stealing from them, they graciously allow you to continue your check out-- hopefully without your triggering Big Brother again. Corporate customer service is defensive. This saves money, they claim - and to hell with the loyalty of lifetime customers. We are transactions not customers and worse, we are all potential cheats and shoplifters. Harris Teeter bought into this flawed intrusive technology and made it clear that they simply do not care about providing first-rate customer service and building long-term customer relationships. I guess for all of us in these past years end of the years to come, there's been or going to a time for all of us when technology becomes too intrusive and the traditional customer merchant/ relationship so skewed and so abused. For me was the third time I got stopped at a Harris Teeter self check out. The technology, the customer service response, and the prioritizing of profit over any relationship frozen Harris Teeter is a company that doesn't meet my values. You're being watched at that self-service check out. You're being judged. You're being assumed to be a criminal. You are the enemy at Harris Teeter and they've sent millions of dollars to catch you. There's so many stores in Boone but still practice real customer service. I encourage you to take your grocery shopping to one of them. I will be.
