We came here for a family birthday dinner 31st August. We all arrived before 630pm and all had ordered before 7pm. The first meals came out around 40mins later and to be told they had run out of green veggies so only served carrots. No option to switch to salad at that stage. The food was overly salty and for $30 was a shame on a plate. 10-15mins one of our family members who was asking what was happening was told to tell our family anyone with veggies, would they be happy with salad as a side. Nearly an hour after ordering. Wouldn't you think this is something you say a little earlier? Also have one of your staff ask us and not get the family member to do the dirty work? 30mins after the first meals were delivered the other meals started coming out. It is a shame what $30 gets you for a standard bistro/ pub meal there. Salad served in a small sauce like dish. Pinch of lettuce, two small halves of a cherry tomato with a ring of onion. Chips took up most of the meal. At least it was hot and not like the first two meals served cold. Meals came out with the wrong sides. To be honest it was a mess. Communication to our family about was happening would have been acceptable but we had nothing. Looking around and everyone else was waiting, looking hungry and tired. The families who had eaten and left, the meals left on the table were mostly uneaten. We soon found out there was only one cook, who was also new. Management should be aware that it does not take more than 30minutes for a pub meal to be served. If you are going to decide to have one cook who is new, be more cautious. It makes your place of business unattractive. And we all have already decided not to return. You may not think much of this but I'm sure we were not the only ones thinking this from last night. The staff at the Highfields tavern have always been friendly and welcoming. The environment was clean and suitable for all, wonderful kids areas. I enjoyed dinner with a pleasant selection. Would be happy to go again Price per person: $20–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
