We went to friday steak eve ,the steak was supposed to be Sirloin. But the thing they served was more like stomach lining of a cow or horse, could not chew it and I have ate a lot of good steak in my life. French fries were good lol I spent $60 bucks for that will never go back

Ok first off I want to get a few things clear before this review. I support small local business 100% as long as they treat their customers good. I wanted more than anything for this to be a glowing review. I am posting a Youtube "VERSUS" video review today on my channel. If anyone would like to check it out my channel is Dvdeez Nuts & Popcorn. (shameless plug) This video pits Jersey Mike's against the Hoagie Ranch Emporium. It's the big business corporate machine versus local small business mom and pop hoagie spot. Do you know who I was rooting for? Come on guys, that's a silly question. I'm a Texas boy and Jersey Mike's has Jersey in it's name. Smh...Ok moving on to the review portion of this review. Haha...Hoagie Ranch Emporium is highly reviewed on Yelp as you can see but it also is extremely highly reviewed on Google with a much larger sample size. People like this place. This review is primarily rating the John Wayne and the Italian Stallion. The John Wayne is a steak and cheese and the Italian Stallion is obviously an Italian sub. I ordered a 12 inch of both and as a straight male I feel very weird ordering a 12 inch Italian Stallion. (Ba dum tss!) All jokes aside the Italian Sub tasted very bland and just had zero flavor to grab you by the you know what. It wasn't bad by any means but it wasn't very good either. When I rate an Italian I take my score from Antonini's Subs in Webster (Minus the cherry peppers, stay away from the cherry peppers!!!) and I either add or subtract from that score. It's the mile marker of the cornerstone of how I rate Italians. That being said the Italian Stallion at Hoagie Ranch is ok but it's not the thoroughbred or Rocky of Italian Subs. Now I would feel very comfortable giving this place a 3 star and walking away feeling like I did not spit in the eye of everything great about hole in the wall small business success stories. This place has been open for 28 years and that must mean something. The only problem with that theory is I also ordered the John Wayne. On the menu the John Wayne is listed as a Cheese Steak 'n Onions. I'm really trying to word this carefully but I can't say anything good about the Cheese, steak or the onions. This was a bad sandwich anyway you want to cut it. I don't want to make excuses for this place but I can only assume their cook called out sick and their back up cook called out sick as well. I don't know who made this thing but it was awful. John Wayne would be highly offended. I took half the Italian home and half the John Wayne home for my daughter. I did not tell her my thoughts on either because I like to get her unfiltered second opinion on food I rate. In my family we do not like to waste food and I raised my daughter with the same principals as I was raised with. She thought the Italian was average but after just one bite of the steak n' cheese she asked me if she could throw it away. As a matter of fact she asked me if she paid me back the money could she throw it away. Do I need to say anymore ladies and gentlemen. Now as for the Google reviewer who said the inside of this place reminded him of the basement in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I have to disagree with his assessment because I didn't see one animal bone carcass in this establishment. lmao...actually I thought the place was decorated really cool with tons of memorabilia and vintage collectables. This would be the perfect place to take someone from out of town to lunch if the food was good. I hope that I caught them on an off today or they just work on improving the food there overall, because I would like to return there one day and support small local business once again.
