La comida estaba riquísima (recomiendo la sopa de pollo y millo), el servicio nos trató fenomenal y bastante atento. Nos dejaron bombones gratis como de muchas gracias por venir, los baños estaban limpios. En el restaurante había un sistema para discapacitados y estaba muy bien decorado. Why We Asked for the 10% Service Charge to Be Removed After Spending £229 at HOME Chinese Manchester at HOME Chinese Manchester I am writing to express my disappointment regarding an extremely unpleasant experience at HOME Chinese Manchester during a gathering with seven friends. We chose your restaurant because I had visited before and previously had a positive impression of both the food and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different. Our group of eight spent a total of £229.35. When paying the bill, I politely asked a simple question: “Is there any discount available for cash payment?” For anyone familiar with Chinese restaurants in the UK, this is a very common and perfectly reasonable question. A simple “No, sorry, we do not offer cash discounts” would have ended the conversation immediately. Instead, the gentleman who appeared to be the duty manager responded in an aggressive and dismissive manner. I was asked: “Discount? Why should I give you a discount?” “Do I know you?” “Am I familiar with you?” I was genuinely shocked by both the tone and attitude. The issue was never about receiving a discount. The issue was the complete lack of courtesy and professionalism shown towards a paying customer. What happened next was even more disappointing. After the bill had already been settled, I returned to my table and was speaking with my friends about what had happened. The same manager then approached our table and began questioning me again in front of all eight guests, repeatedly asking why I would ask such a question. At no point did he attempt to apologise, clarify the misunderstanding, or de-escalate the situation. Instead, his manner felt confrontational, intimidating and unnecessarily hostile. As a result, what should have been an enjoyable gathering among friends became an extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing experience. Eventually, members of our group requested that the 10% service charge be removed, as we did not feel that the service we received justified it. The restaurant refunded £20.85, leaving a final payment of £208.50. However, the money was never the main issue. The real issue was how customers were treated. As consumers, we dine out to enjoy good food, good company and good service. We do not expect to be spoken to in a disrespectful manner or publicly challenged after paying our bill. I believe it is important that the restaurant management is aware of this incident. One negative interaction can undo years of hard work spent building a reputation and customer loyalty. Sadly, after this experience, neither I nor the friends who attended with me will be returning, and I would not feel comfortable recommending the restaurant to others. I hope this feedback will be taken seriously and used to improve customer service standards in the future. A disappointed customer Service: 1
