We are visiting the area and have been looking for a more local and southern cooking restaurants to try while here, sick of the same old corp chains. This place is not the fanciest nor does it have the largest menu. Very simple few dishes a day and from our first visit I have to say they do it very well. My wife had the chicken dumplings (One of her fav dishes) and she raved about it the whole time while finishing every bit of it (seldome happens for her). I had to try the southern fried chicken and it was excellent, juicy and crispy flavorful coating. I also ordered an extra piece of fried fish which from the looks of it I could not resist. The fish was even better than the chicken, we had our 2 year old grandson with us and he could not get enough of the fish. It is hard to find good fish done like this. I normally don't write reviews but the main dishes at this place I just had to comment, give it a try, its truly home cooking no franchise flavors here!! I hope we get a chance to go back again before we leave. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Order type: Dine in Meal type: Lunch

This isn't called Home Plate Restaurant for nothing! If you're looking for a hardy, home cooked Southern meal like your grandma used to make, this is the place for you!I have not had a bad meal here yet. They have all your Southern home-settle favorites, fried pork chops, BBQ chicken, fried fish, meatloaf, country style steak, chicken dumplings, Brunswick stew, boneless ribs, the list goes on! That's only the main course, the sides include Mac& cheese, green beans, greens, corn, fried apples, cabbage, Navy beans, rice, and black eyed peas. Then there's dessert... Homemade cobblers (cherry, apple), banana pudding, and more.Since this is just like grandma made, the portion sizes are filling enough with leftovers to take home.You won't be disappointed here.Can't wait to go back!
