We were there last week for a friend's birthday (a party of 12); just approaching the house and seeing the table set up for us and us alone was enough to take your breath away.
And that's before we talk about the food. OH MY GOD THE FOOD. Local meats and cheese formed the antipasti, then there were gnocchi so good you wanted to cry, then a wonderfully delicate pork and apple main course. By the time dessert came around I was in a food coma, but even that was enough to stir my taste buds out of it.
All the while the wine was flowing and the conversation never dulled. What better sign of a night well spent and credit for this must go to Valentina the host. I was amazed to learn that this staggering meal for 12 she had cooked on her own (!), as her husband was stuck in Georgia thanks to COVID.
Not only did she pull off this culinary feat singlehandedly, but she even had time to chat to us and share her home with us. Sitting in her beautiful living room listening to Italian opera capped off a night I'll never forget.
