A small treasure in Grays Ferry! I’ve been wanting to visit Illata for quite a while and tonight was the night. Every experience exceeded our expectations. With a reservation we only waited for the doors to open right on time! We were warmly greeted, comfortably seated and offered water and wine glasses immediately. The menu was described by our server Maggie as 3 out of 4 of us were first time diners. She offered to help us choose dishes and was careful to check on allergies. Honesty we tasted every last thing on the menu for tonight and some desserts not on the menu. We all agreed that each new dish became “my new favorite dish!” The simple descriptions come Nowhere near the complex flavors experienced as we shared each plate. Standouts for me were the carrot crab brown butter dish, squid and mushroom rice (I was not sure about trying this one and I’m so glad I did) and the cavetelli and Marcella bean with lemon was just so fresh and bright. We tried 4 desserts and I can’t begin to pick a favorite but the date cake was a real surprise for me. Since the dishes change I’m sure we will need to come back. Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
