Our B&B hosts recommended Isabela. The power was out in town because of thunderstorms, but the restaurant has a generator. To keep this review simple - if you are looking for an excellent, high quality meal, go - just go! They handled my dairy allergy easily. The cocktails were creative and used local ingredients, as does all of their food. I had hake that came with mussels, potatoes and onions. It was all good, but the mussels stole the show for me. These were, without a doubt, the best mussels I’ve ever had - tender with a slightly smoky taste. My husband loved his short rib meal as well. The service was excellent, too! We highly recommend! Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labelled vegetarian dishes Dietary restrictions: My dairy allergy was a nonissue and I had plenty of choices. I even had dairy free chocolate ice cream for dessert!

Sadly, we left disappointed. After reading the glowing review of Isabela in the Times Union, my wife and I were excited to give it a try. We made a 7:00 PM reservation on a Wednesday evening. When we arrived, there were only four or five occupied tables, and the restaurant remained about the same throughout the night, so it never appeared busy or overwhelmed. We arrived and were seated immediately. Our server greeted us and took our drink and “snack” order while we looked over the menu. Snack being a bread plate. While waiting for the drinks and “snack”, we reviewed the menu and decided what we wanted. When the drinks arrived a few moments later, we were asked if we were ready to order. Since we already knew what we wanted, we ordered everything at once: appetizers, entrees, a side order of fries, and a bottle of wine. Within two minutes, the bread snack arrived, two or three minutes later the appetizers arrived and two minutes later the wine arrived. We had barely taken a sip of our cocktails and tasted the bread before being asked to taste the wine while still having an almost full drink and appetizers in front of us. We took note of the time, 7:10, since we were a little overwhelmed with all of the activity happening within a 10 minute time span. From that point on, the entire evening felt rushed, despite the restaurant not being overly busy and there being plenty of open tables. To be clear, the food itself was excellent. I had the Tuna Carpaccio appetizer, and my wife had the Sweet Potato appetizer — both were delicious. For entrees, I ordered the pork chop and my wife had the skewered short ribs. Again, both dishes were delicious. The issue was the pacing and service. I finished my appetizer before my wife and moved my empty plate to give me more room at our table for two to the unused table beside us where it sat uncleared for quite a while. The moment my wife finished her appetizer, our entrees arrived immediately afterward, leaving no time to relax, talk, or enjoy the evening between courses. They also forgot our order of fries, and we had to remind them. The fries didn’t arrive until about ten minutes after the entrees - they did not charge us for the fries. We were completely finished with dinner and in our car by 7:56 PM — roughly an hour after arriving. The entire experience left us feeling rushed and not wanting to have dessert. The hurried pace took away from what otherwise could have been a wonderful dining experience. Had there been more thoughtful timing between courses and a more relaxed atmosphere, this review would likely be very different. After reading the Times Union review, I expected both exceptional food and exceptional service. While the kitchen delivered, our service experience simply did not match the glowing praise we had read. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

Top farm to table experience. Menu is full of creative and fresh items sourced from local Hudson Valley purveyors, including a very solid spirits collection. Exemplary food, service, and ambience. Highly recommend. Worth a day trip from NYC. Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
