I love pizza. Every Sunday makes me think, "Pizza is a good life choice." Moving into Whittier has made that easier because although I've lost lots of really great hole-in-the-wall places when I moved to Whittier, Jo Peep's NY Pizza was a miracle for my pizza desires. Jo Peep's is a small pizza place located right off Whittier Blvd. There's nothing really special about it. If you've watched any TV show featuring a hole-in-the-wall pizza restaurant in the 1990s, then you have an idea of how this place looks like. It is a small restaurant where the kitchen takes up half the space. One small corner holds pinballs and arcade machines. A few tables are placed around and a small flat screen TV is available for news or sports. The menu is written on laminated pieces of paper and also chalked on the walls behind the counter. Stacks of pizza boxes and big silver ovens can be seen. Even the people who work here look like the pizza workers you'd see on television with gruff, a cap, and apron and easy going attitudes. Perhaps this pizza place was fashioned after television shows or perhaps the shows got it right. Either way, most likely you will end up ordering pizza to go. The food is really what is amazing about this place. The pizza is fantastic and even if you order a normal crusted pizza, it has the essence of that thin crust New York style people love. If you get the New York style pizza, even better as that thin crust overflows with cheese and sauce. Each orangey-greasy slice is like a slice of Heaven in your mouth and even as I write this review I sincerely want a piece. That first bite and life is good. The price is a bit steeper than a chain pizza shop like Pizza Hut or Domino's but you can taste the difference with each bite. I highly recommend you bring cash here because if you use card there is a surcharge for the service. Overall, Jo Peep's is my place to go when it comes to pizza and now that I've told you all the wonders of this place I'll think I'll go get some myself.
