Had such a wonderful late lunch at j’s kitchen! The service was quick and friendly and the carne frita was a delicious deal during happy hour! The dark and stormy was refreshing and delicious. I will definitely be returning to try more of the menu! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We got takeout from here several days ago. As someone originally raised in Florida, I was missing PR food! I always love arroz con gandules, so I got that and added pernil (pork) to it. The pernil was delicious, and I liked the arroz con gandules, though some of the rice was leaning toward the mushy side. My spouse got the Cuban sandwich, and he said it was the best one he's had in WA state. (He also was raised in Korea, then Florida.) We shared the empanada sampler, and the chicken was delicious, though the beef one was pretty salty. My spouse said the cheese and buffalo chicken were just okay. The pollo guisado was/is phenomenal. The chicken was moist, tender, and flavorful. The stewed vegetables were cooked well, and the rice is sooooo good! My mom and I enjoyed the beans and rice in general. We had mixed feelings on the sauces. The mojo and garlic creamy one were okay but didn't add a whole lot. The cilantro one was too strong with something because it was rather bitter. I hope they continue to develop the sauces because the yuca fries need *something*. I almost forgot - my mom (from Peru) loved the yuca fries! She thought the tostones were just okay, but I enjoyed them. They had a hint of sweetness that I appreciated. We wanted to order maduros and rellenos de papa, but they were sold out (which is a good sign). I hope they stay in business a long time because it's hard to find varieties of Latin cuisine!
