Duck and Noods Kanjo is a restaurant that I learned about in my Instagram (!?!) feed and features a unique combination of duck and soba noodles Chef Toyoda’s background is from a restaurant family and his innovative dishes feature homages to his grandfather’s sushi mastery, his father’s French cooking and his brother’s soba restaurant I expected a heavily duck and noodle-centric meal but the artfully paced experience includes surprises like hairy crab chawamushi, generous uni over soba, and mapo tofu (with duck meat) over rice As the only foreigners in the intimate 7-seat restaurant, we marveled at our fellow Japanese diners extensive wine and alcohol pairings (on a weeknight!) and listened intently about the Japanese steel used to sear all the duck meats that is the highlight of the meal (that meatball and duck breast are sublime!)
