Canteen food in the red light district A very small and cute eatery in the city center, surrounded by historic architecture in the middle of the Cité Plantagenêt. The store is well attended and the crowd is very mixed. The restaurant tends to be particularly popular with millennials. You can order either a large or a small menu. First negative point: there is no children's menu. When asked, the waiter points out that the eleven-year-old daughter should order a main course and a dessert for €26 like the adults. This doesn't go down well, as the youngest is a vegetarian and there is no corresponding offer on the menu. The prices for the drinks: at five euros for 0.25 l soft drink, rather sporty. The wine list is quite acceptable and okay for the wallet, even if the wines are not outstanding. The staff: professional, but brusque and curt. But with a bit of a rowdy exchange of words, you ultimately sneak into the hearts of the waiters. The food: we chose four menus, i.e. four different starters, main courses and desserts. You could say that we sample a representative cross-section of the menu with fish, meat and shellfish, as there are no more than seven main courses here. Not a single dish is vegetarian, which is another minus point. The starters, main courses and dessert are professionally presented. We especially like the starters (ceviche de ton, mushroom cannelloni, scallops), they are very good but not of exceptional quality. If it had continued like that, we probably would have been thrilled. The desserts are also a positive surprise: handcrafted and made exactly to our taste. But the real problem is the main courses: the food here is more of canteen quality, you can't speak of a high French culinary school. There is a lack of finesse and quality in both the presentation form and the preparation of the food. None of the dishes are really well seasoned, the ingredients are rather bland and of average quality. The only thing that stands out are the homemade black tagliatelle that the youngest child is served. Because she is a vegetarian, we parents get the shrimp. A fundamental problem is the lighting in the restaurant: bathed in red light, everything looks like uniformity; at times you are reminded of Louis de Funès in the 1976 film “Breast or Keule”. So the restaurant's classic is a particular disappointment: a piece of shoulder cooked for 5 hours Beef with lots of cartilage and a sauce that is way too sweet. As side dishes there are sweet potatoes and some indefinable vegetables. The fish is also not particularly attractively prepared and prepared, all in all disappointing. In the end we pay just under €140 for four meals and a bottle of moderate rosé wine, which costs €8 in stores. Was it worth it to us? Contrary to the many laudatory reviews, our conclusion is: Le Nez Rouge has certainly seen better days, the food and service here are rather average, there are better and cheaper alternatives a few streets away. We would like to give the restaurant a second chance. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €30–40 Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3
