The taste is not the best in Sydney, some dishes are on the salty side. The advantage is that it is cheap and large in quantity. The most cost-effective Hunan cuisine in the heart of Sydney. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$40–60 Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

Had a dinner outing at Little Hunan located right in the bustling heart of Sydney with a couple of mates. We ambitiously ordered eight dishes among the three of us and, surprisingly, ended up polishing off everything. This might sound like a feat, but it actually points to the portions being on the smaller side—a bit of a letdown when you're coming in hungry and ready for a feast. One dish that stood out in this regard was the squid tentacles (鱿鱼爪); there was just too little on the plate. Given it's not the priciest of items, you'd expect a bit more, especially considering its high cholesterol—it's almost like they're saving on the cheap stuff. Maybe it's a sign of the times, with the economy being what it is, making it hard for restaurants to dish out generosity. The salted egg yolk tofu (咸蛋黄豆腐) didn't hit the mark for me—it missed that authentic Hunan kick I was craving. However, it wasn't all misses; the leek with smoked tofu (韭菜香干) was quite a delight. The portion was generous, and the flavors were spot on, nicely smoked and all. But then, the green beans with roasted eggplant (豆角烧茄子) brought me back down—the serving was just too scant, especially for something that doesn't break the bank.
