Rapidly Establishing Local Street Cred. New Englanders are demanding in their sports, their snow removal efficiency, and definitely in their choice of food, particularly seafood. Most locals know the prime seafood joints up and down the South Shore just out side of Boston. Families have their favorites, and even tourists follow their routine and annual eating habits when they return to the beach each summer, especially if the food is good. For years, places like Jake's right next door, has been the venerable hangout for proper seafood, and it's certainly still holding its own. The relatively new upstart is the Lobster Express market and takeout right off of George Washington Boulevard by the wharf Public Pier and Marina as one enters Hull. They have quickly set a foothold into the seafood market share and offer excellent prices, consistent quality and freshness, and friendly service every time you visit. Their classic fried seafood platters are bountiful and well prepared. The clam chowder is available everyday, has a tang of sour cream, and is loaded with clams and potatoes. It's perfect on a breezy day. The pressed sandwiches comprise of rather tasty, typically homemade ingredients on the premises, and each have their own local flair and familiar flavors. On my most recent visit, my friends recommended Lobster Express as the go-to place for freshly harvested lobsters. They have a small storage pound, and keep their stock fresh and lively. Moreover, their prices are usually quite competitive. The summer months brings this restaurant additional customers, but it also means they turn inventory faster, even more acutely improving the quality of their seafood. Scallop, squid and clam dishes are simple but well prepared, ensuring the product remains moist, tender and flavorful. Because of the very close proximity to both the bay behind the store, and the beachcombers across the frontage street, they get brisk boater and tourist foot traffic all day. It can get busy, but the turnover times are generally minimal. Seafood prices always skyrocket in the summer months based mostly on market demand. To their credit, Lobster Express manages to keep the prices relatively fair and offer very good value to families and bargain seekers alike. The location is super convenient, and the food is pretty tasty. Sounds like a recipe for success to me.
