Horrible drinks and food!!  They put so much alcohol in my one drink that I had to complain and their food is lackluster.

Three and a half is about right. Tried this theater-district spot on a "30 for 50" Yelp deal (which I recommend) to meet with family in a convenient location. In my experience restaurants in this area tend to be okay but not great. You get reasonable dinner and drinks and that's about it. L'ybane fits that description. Service was professional and attentive. The ambience/decor/cleanliness were acceptable but not memorable. As so-called Mediterranean food, it lacked distinctive Mediterranean flavors. We started out with some okay red wine (a Pinot Noir) and appetizers of falafel, hummus and tzatziki. Falafel was over fried and much too crunchy. Hummus and tzatziki needed seasoning. For example, sesame flavor was not to be found. As entree, The Royale platter was like everything else just okay and, despite the dusting of sumac on the plate, needed seasoning. Rice was non-descript. Tabbouleh was overwhelmed by parsely. Shrimp on skewers were nicely cooked though bland. Main complaint was that the dish they called moussaka looked and tasted like eggplant parm. There was not a hint of meat or pasta in the dish.  Mussels and fries was the best dish owing to generous and relatively plump mussels -- the sauce was not great -- with excellent French Fries which was the best part of the meal (Note: waitress thoughtfully offered mayo in addition to the ketchup on the plate). You might pass on dessert. Baklava seemed over-baked and did not taste like it was sweetened with honey. And an almond-stuffed pastry had a weird taste profile that we could not identify, saffron maybe.  Coffee, though, was excellent.   Overall, with modest expectations, this is an acceptable place for a pre-theater meal and a hangout after work. The bar was full when we left about 8:30 PM. Check included an 18% gratuity (on the total, before prepaid deal)  for our party of 5.
