If you are reading this, take it as a sign and book your reservation for MÄS now. We traveled from Texas just to dine here and to say it was worth it would be an understatement. From the atmosphere, the food, wine/sake pairings and the chef(s), every single thing placed on the plate in front of us well exceeded our expectations. This was by far the best meal we have ever had. The flavor combinations and presentations were all a “chefs kiss”. (Do yourself a favor and do the sake pairing! You won’t be disappointed!) The setting was perfection and we could not have dreamt for anything more. Chef Josh has created the most exceptional place here. Devyn was phenomenal as well and these two made our 16th anniversary one for the books and we are so fortunate to have had this experience. Thank you for creating this special place. Going out for us will never be the same and I mean that in the best way possible. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $100+ Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating for food allergies. Just be sure to give advance notice.

My meal and overall experience at MÄS was very special! There is one seating at 5pm. The counter (which I highly recommend) holds 6 people and there are a few tables in the back (and I didn't even see that space). So keep in mind that this is an intimate dining experience and also, with so few patrons being served each evening, the cost reflects this. If you like or are attracted to intimate dining experiences and willing to just relax into all that entails, I think you'll love MÄS. If you are used to quick service, huge menus and American sized portions, you'll be frustrated and I'd say this experience is not a good fit. I've had the privilege of having countless special meals (in all sort of forms and styles). And what makes MÄS unique is that the chef/owner, Josh, is very interactive with the patrons. Truly, much more than anywhere else I've dines. He can and probably will, nerd out on any detail of the food and restaurant, should you ask him a question. He is generous with his knowledge and also eager to know what his guests are thinking and experiencing in his space. The whole restaurant is a 2 man operation. As in, they are both the front and back of house. It takes some dedication to be entrepreneur, expo and dishwasher (and everything else)! The dishes have influence from Japan, French (sauces) and Northwest (whatever is local). Which honestly, IMHO, are 3 of the most articulate cuisines out there. And the attention to detail is aligned with what one expects from Japanese and French restaurants. There wasn't a bite of food I wouldn't eat many times over. Although you would not end up doing so, because the menu is so closely tied to what's in season and available, that Friday's dinner is likely going to vary from Thursday's dinner. Josh didn't state this, although I sensed that he feels like he is welcoming guests into his personal space (and yes, he curated this space to be what it is). And that he gains something from the personal interactions he cultivates each evening, above and beyond it being a business style. After dinner, he gave me a tour of his attached restaurants. Nama is a casual bar serving Japanese food. And there is a lounge that is tucked away behind a door and upstairs, that serves alcohol. I was so delighted by the whole experience. And on my way back to Portland a few days later, I ate at Nama - as I really want to support his venture (and I needed to eat, and the food was perfect). Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
