I ordered the Bo La Lot (Beef Wrapped in Betel Leaf) that I requested to have wrapped in rice paper filled with lettuce, carrot, cucumber and mint. Love the flavors of this dish. I also ordered an iced coffee which me made with coffee mate not condensed milk.

Apparently this place has been around for 40 years. In all that time the dining room has probably not been renovated. If you read the reviews, people come here for the Crab Curry. The thought of shelling crab that is soaked in curry doesn't appeal to me so I got the Pho. I need to say I was EXTREMELY skeptical if I'd be satisfied with a $20 bowl of seafood pho. However, I have to say that this was THE BEST seafood pho I've ever had. And I've been to most of the places in town. Pho Saigon used to have a great seafood pho. Pre Pandemic it cost $18 and had home made fishcake, and a slab of fresh ahi in it. Post pandemic it cost $22 and they removed the ahi. This bowl at Mai Lan has 5 jumbo shrimp that were NOT overcooked. They were moist and succulent rather than dry and rubbery from cooking in the broth way too long. It has some nice fish cake, and a decent sized crab leg in it. I've NEVER had Pho that had a real crab leg in it. It was even pre cut. When average pho costs $16 to $18 these days, I'll gladly pay a couple bucks extra for something like this. Service was good. The hostess was not particularly friendly. This is a real old school place. A few guys came in with about 4 bottles of wine and more beer and the owner sat at the table with them and drank. But with Pho like that, who cares. I'll be back

Who knew? Clearly over 40 years of doing business in the same location, you will find Mai Lan Fine Vietnamese Cuisine. This establishment has been owned, run and chef'd by Sam Yu for those amount of years, maybe more. I remember visiting him years ago with friends who patronized Mai Lan. The food was good back then and is just as good today. The menu and the general style of cooking and taste remains the same and on par with what everyone speaks of. The decor is simple. Nothing fancy but clean and that's the main thing. It appears as a "Mom and Pop" type place.... I think Mr. Yu wants to keep Mai Lan's image in that light. I just have one suggestion and a must if you are dining at Mai Lan and its CURRY CRAB. Nuf said
