Love the food and people that work here, both are amazing. One of my favorite restaurants on Ventura Blvd. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Farmer's Market Beet Salad, Seared Albacore Carpaccio, Shrimp & Scallop Aguachile, Spicy Yellowfin Tuna Crispy Rice 4pcs, Tempura Cauliflower, Kalua Pork Lettuce Wraps, Horseradish Crusted Mahi Mahi

What can I say about Malama Pono Restaurant that hasn't already been said by the 400+ other 5-star reviews. Was staying in Hollywood when I got a craving for Hawaii food (of all things), searched on Yelp and found Malama. So glad I made the trek because it was well worth it and will definitely go back there next time I'm in LA. The Spam Crispy Rice was a real treat and I wish I knew (or could figure out) how they get the rice so crispy. Also the spam had the perfect char without it being overdone or burnt. Then I paired it with the Ahi Tuna Poke at the recommendation of my server who said his personal favorite was to dip the crispy rice in the ponzu sauce that came with the Poke and boy was he right! (:Talk about a trip to flavor town :) If you're up for an adventure next time you're in Los Angeles and don't mind driving to Sherman Oaks do yourself a favor, go and bring your appetite. My only regret is I couldn't try more of their menu (like the steam mussels, ricotta dumplings, seared scallops, and horseradish crusted mahi, that the table next to me ordered which looked fantastic.) The one thing I will caution about is parking in the area is difficult. Good luck finding any free parking because there isn't any. They have valet but if you're cheap like me there's metered parking in the area that ends at 8p and if you plan accordingly and willing to wait out the clock you might get lucky and find a free spot.
