The Best Restaurant on Orcas Matia is truly an experience. This is without question the best dining on the island. Using local ingredients - like oysters from Crescent Beach- and adjusting the menu daily, the menu felt fresh. We ate at the chef's counter and got 10 courses. Every dish was wonderfully crafted, technically excellent, and flavourful. I see why the chef was a James Beard finalist. I don't think I've ever had a meal where each dish was as creative, perfect, and successfully used local ingredients. This was truly a delight to eat. The service was also excellent. The server and sommelier was professional and friendly. Beyond that, the wine pairings were some of the best I've had. I rarely get wine that truly elevates my dishes but these pairings really did so. She's truly excellent at her craft - like everyone who works at Matia. This place is truly outstanding and props to their crew. Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Amazing service, good atmosphere — food and drinks need slightly more refinement and better execution to justify the price. Each drink and dish was either a bit too sweet, too salty, too bland, too one note, opposed to everything working in perfect harmony. Can tell they use good ingredients and try unique combos but just not totally there yet. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

We had such a fun dining experience at Matia Kitchen. The rhubarb gazpacho stole the show and the staff were super helpful, friendly, and bright. I'd go just to hang out with the staff and have a drink with them! We did not get a chance to hang out at the bar named Monti but would love to check it out next time we're in town. It looked deep, dark and moody with clean lines and a sense of modern charm and elegance compared to the kitchen which had more of beach house/ dining hall light and airy feel with all the windows.
