My wife and I were headed out for a Thursday evening dinner and thought we'd enjoy a hamburger at J's Burgers in Plymouth. I guess we don't get to Plymouth much because we were surprised to see the building displaying a new sign, Max and Bella's Smokehouse. First, let me say that I've traveled to Texas and the south and LOVE a good BBQ. I had the Brisket sandwich and have to give this 5 stars. Well done! The portions were mammoth and the mound of brisket was extremely tender and moist. I haven't had a brisket sandwich like this since I ate at The Pit in Durham, NC. They have a pretty good BBQ sauce that has a bit of "zip" and they have a bottle of spiced vinegar. I prefer a wider variety of sauces, but was happy with several helpings of their sauce. Their coleslaw is crispy and nicely dressed. This must be made in house and is excellent. My wife ordered the Mac and Cheese side and we shared the large brisket sandwich. In addition, the Chef, Aaron, gave us samples of their dirty rice and salmon chowder. He offered very large portions as samples and we enjoyed both. Both the dirty rice and salmon chowder are spicy. The salmon chowder was piping hot and held it's thermal temp for some while. There is plenty of cream in the soup. I'll order the chowder next time we visit. Aaron and his wife, Kim, are very friendly and make the visit pleasant. My first impression when reviewing the menu board was that their prices are a bit high. The fare is excellent, you get lots of everything, and I think it is well worth the price. There are some "famous" BBQ joint that try to reach Max and Bella's level. This Smokehouse set the standard in our region. Well done, Aaron!
