Maya Chan is legit the best. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful the place and staff are. They really take service to the next level. When we first booked our cruise in January, I started researching things to do in Costa Maya. After reading some rave reviews about Maya Chan, I quickly contacted them to make a booking. I highly recommend making a booking as soon as you can, since they do limit the amount of people that can visit per day. They were super quick to respond and always very helpful when I had questions. I requested a palapa - typically they either assign you a palapa or a pergola. I really wanted a palapa just in case any moist clouds flew by while we were there. They were able to accommodate us. We had this palapa with a bed, two chairs, a swing chair, and a hammock all to ourselves. The moment we arrived, we were greeted with a welcome drink and chips, salsa, and guacamole. Before I even finished my first drink, they were already around asking if we wanted another one! BF went to get a massage ($25 for half hour, $45 for full hour) and I just hung out in the hammock with a drink in my hand. We then used their floating chairs, which are the best things ever created. Staff kayaked out to take our drink orders! I always had a mango daiquiri in hand throughout the day. We also used their glass bottom kayaks, which was fun but exhausting! Lunch was a house-made Mayan-inspired taco buffet with corn or flour soft tortillas and four protein choices and a lot of toppings. We had our choice of skirt steak, chicken, pork, and fish. I opted for the steak, chicken, and fish. The fish! OMG the fish!! It was so good. It was flakey and soft and buttery. I wish I had gotten more fish! There was also a kind of bean stew and rice. After lunch, they ask you when you want to leave and I think most of us left at the same time (2:30pm). It was a bit earlier, but we definitely wanted to get back in time for all aboard at 4:30pm. We were actually in the water, so they kayaked out to ask us what time we wanted to leave! They also have fresh water showers, clean bathrooms, and changing rooms as well as lockers and snorkeling gear. Wifi was decent - but I wasn't on my phone often anyways. Warnings: There are two doggos, so if you're not a dog person, beware. They're nice dogs though! The walk to the meet up spot is long and hot, so if you're not very mobile, or good with heat, this might be a problem for you. The drive there is bumpy, but nothing terrible or dangerous. It just took a long time. There is seaweed and the water is brown. Sometimes it's smelly too. BUT the staff work SUPER hard to clear the seaweed from the beach. BF and I weren't bothered. We just kept offering large bundles of seaweed to each other as "presents".
This is the best cruise stop I have been to. You have to book it directly through the company, since they only take so many guest a day. Our party of 6 were picked up at the port and taken by van to this destination. We were welcomed with drinks and chips and dip. We ran our waiter around getting us shots and refilling our beers and cocktails. Lunch was great. We indulged in a couples massage, I think it was around $20-30 for 30 minutes each. I wish we would have done the hour but we didn't want to miss out on the fun our friends were having. One of our friends got engaged there. Unfortunately, our fun came to an early end when one of the guys in our group fell off his paddle board onto a rock and sliced his foot open. The staff was helpful & kind to wrap his foot and get us on an early van back to the ship to be seen by the doctors on board our ship. We want to come back & experience a full day.

I kinda hate giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 but I need to for a couple of reasons. My wife and I were going on a cruise and one port we stopped at was Costa Maya.  We did some research beforehand and Maya Chan came highly recommended on TripAdvisor, Reddit, and here on Yelp, so we booked it. Transportation, all you can eat lunch buffet, and free drinks on a private beach for just $60?  Sounded good to us.   Unfortunately, apparently the time of the year we went is not a good time.  Because of the heat in August there was a lot of sargassum seaweed and it made the place smell so bad.  The ride was definitely the smelliest part and we ended up putting some deodorant under our noses to help.  Also, the road to the beach has speed bumps in the form of huge ropes laid across the road and it's quite slow and bumpy. Once we got there the place was quite nice.  You get your own private chairs, table, bed, and hammock (for larger groups only).  The place is beautiful and the people are super friendly -- I have a mini crush on the ex-archaeologist who is a host and manned the gift shop while we were there ;).  Again because of the time of year the beach and waterfront was fairly disgusting.  They had people actively cleaning it the entire time we were there, but it didn't help a lot.  My wife loves being on the beach and in the water, but she put her feet in and was done, so we mostly just sat around, ate, drank, and played in the sand.  The food was good, especially the chicken, beans, and rice. In terms of returning, they arrange transport back after lunch, but if you need to go early you can probably do that.   So, why only 4 stars?  We had previously cruised to Mazatlan on the other side of Mexico and had a similar experience at El Cid El Moro with all you can eat and drink, beach (not private), drinks, lots of clean heated pools, and it was nicer than most Las Vegas resorts for a similar price ($40 for the day pass + $20 for transportation).  I'd probably prefer to go there instead because you can eat when you want, come and go as you please, don't have to worry about potentially dirty beaches. Another REALLY BIG reason to maybe consider NOT going to Maya Chan is that right in port as you get off the cruise ship there is a huge really clean pool area with waterfalls and all sorts of stuff that's free, there's a beach, dolphin exhibit, lots of shops and restaurants.  It's practically like having a day pass at a resort and it doesn't cost anything (except for food/drinks, which are cheap) and the area is the most clean area I've seen in any port in Mexico by far.   When we go back to Costa Maya we'll definitely plan on just getting off the boat and hanging out in port, opting to book excursions in other ports instead.  We would likely only go back to Maya Chan if we were with other people or if we were in Costa Maya for more than one day.
