This place is closed, but the "new" replacement looks and feels exactly the same. They still do dim sum on weekends via carts :)

This place has been sold and has reopened as a new restaurant.  Grand Golden Bay.  Same type of restaurant with the same decor, but better prices.

Finally I have found an authentic dim sum restaurant that DOESN'T involve me traveling to Oakland or SF Chinatown! Yes folks, such a feat is possible and it fills me with inexplicable joy. Mayflower Seafood Restaurant may be a regular restaurant my mid-afternoon to evening but in the late morning to early afternoon, it is a bustling ballroom restaurant filled with large tables and staff pushing around carts filled with different dim sum dishes. For those who do not know, dim sum is a form of Cantonese cuisine which involves sharing various small plates family style. The dishes include various types of steamed buns, fried buns, cakes, meats, and veggies cooked in various styles, and the dishes are grouped together on carts or trays and are passed around to table to table. The table then chooses which if any dishes they want and once the dishes have been placed on the table, the server stamps the card that every table is given to mark the dish and this card eventually is used to calculate the bill. Green tea or jasmine tea is also served for the table and is meant to be consumed with the dim sum dishes. What I really love about Mayflower is that not only does it have authentic dim sum dishes, but it also has a great breadth of dishes to attract every type of eater, from vegetarians to pescatarians like myself to meat eaters. Everyone is bound to found dishes here that they will enjoy and leave satisfied with, and inclusiveness is a big plus in my book. The dim sum dishes are also all incredibly fresh and delicious, especially the more difficult dishes to make such as the lai wong bao (egg custard bun), the shrimp dumplings, and the fried shrimp balls. From my dim sum experiences in the past, I have found that the quality of these dishes can be hit or miss, but when they are hits, then I know that I have found a winning dim sum restaurant. Another plus to this restaurant is how fast you are done with your meal -- on the two times now that I have been to this restaurant, I was in and out of the restaurant in under a half hour and completely stuffed. As soon as you are seated you are swarmed with staff offering you various dishes, so within just a few minutes you may find that your table is completely covered with dishes. My only complaint of Mayflower is that it is more expensive than the typical dim sum restaurants you would find in Oakland or San Francisco Chinatown; however if I had to pick between price and location, location will usually win out. I definitely recommend Mayflower to anyone looking to try dim sum for the first time and want to start out on the right path as well as fellow dim sum enthusiasts like myself.
