McGarrets was overcrowded and understaffed, run down, and, apparently, not well cared-for. Myself and some friends visited on a busy night. Each of us ordered a beverage. I had a simple Sprite, and its flavor was noticably wrong. Later that evening, trying to sleep, I experienced severe stomach cramping and its consequences. My friends, the same. Our drinks at McGarrets are the only mutual link we have in terms of food and beverage intake that prior day, or even the week, for that matter. No one else we had spent the day with had these symptoms. While their cases of food poisoning (likely Norovirus, based on the symptoms) were light by comparison, lasting only one to two days, I'm still suffering from an illness most likely caused by glasses that were not adequately cleaned. This lack of sanitation has led to multiple days of missed work, sleepless nights of pain, and an ever-present nausea. I tried to call during business hours to alert management of the issue and nobody picked up. Let's top it off. The pool tables are in need of repair or replacement—creasing felt, warped wood, balls with thousands of shots on them. The interior design is faulty, with poor positioning of the bar and dart boards and TVs. For a sports bar, there aren't enough TVs at all. The bathrooms are utterly unsanitary as well, and desperately need to be cleaned. There are much nicer, and even cheaper, bars. On the same road. I wouldn't recommend going to this place unless you like the idea of puking your guts out, be it because you got sick from unwashed dishes or because you have a modicum of respect for where you choose to enjoy an evening.
