Been here a couple of times for takeaway lunch for myself and our staff and honestly LOVE this place. Everything you want from a classic fish and chip shop. All the items we have had have been on point. Clean oil, fresh and crispy thick cut chips, great prices and super friendly family run business. Their daughter even hand delivered to us a couple doors down. Believe it’s changed hands in the last year or so. Can recommend the lamb souvlaki, calamari, schnitzel chicken burger, steak sandwich, chips and gravy all amazing. Great lunch or dinner option. Wonderful local little spot!

Visiting Kyneton I tried looking up reviews to figure out which fish n chip shop was best but couldn’t so I took a punt on Mermaids because it appears they changed hands recently. Batter was old school as I like it, both crispy and doughy where it should be. Flake was nice, potato cakes pretty good. Pity calamari is not fresh/real, otherwise I would have ordered it. Chips looked standard, not house cut but no where seems to do this which is a shame. Pineapple fritter with cinnamon sugar, tick. Oil clean and not soaking the paper. Prices reasonable, shop clean, staff friendly enough and cook quickly. Offered chicken or normal salt.
