I’ve recently had a craving for some good battered fish, so today I tried the $12 hake and chips at Merredin Pizza for a late lunch. It was so good that I came back later to get more for dinner with my parents. I tried a piece of red emperor too. The fish was cooked to perfection, with crispy batter; the best I’ve eaten in years. I highly recommend it. (Supreme pizza with added anchovies is also good here.) Excellent service too! The owner and a young staff member were busy cooking out the back, while the owner’s teenage daughter worked at the counter serving customers and taking an unending number of orders by phone. Her manners and customer service skills, both in person and on the phone, were faultless, a rarity these days. Together, the team worked like a well oiled machine, preparing orders in no time. Well done, everyone. Food: 5 Order type: Takeaway Price per person: $1–20
