Visited Metropolitan Tavern and absolutely loved the vibe. The rooftop views of Portland were beautiful, and the atmosphere felt trendy without being too over the top. The drinks were great, the food was flavorful, and everything came out fresh. What really stood out was how fun and relaxed the whole experience felt. It’s the kind of place that works for date night, birthdays, or just getting dressed up and enjoying the city. Definitely one of those spots that makes you want to come back again. We're here for happy hour on a Friday before a concert. Heard to get in by 4pm and, man, they were right! Do make reservations if you can. Bar seating is 1st come 1st served and we were able to find a couple at the bar. Had a few of the happy hour offerings. All were good. Calamari was nice. Served with sweet chili sauce. House greens were nice and light. The pork tacos were very juicy. Sliders also good and juicy. Yeah, we were there for a while. Oh, heh. The drinks were good too! Meal type: Other Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This is a good spot for brunch as they are quick about refilling a empty mimosa glass! Love that. Other than this the service AND food here is very hit or miss. After a few times of going to Metropolitan Tavern it seems like I get far better service and food when Im with a group (3 times) rather than when I go by myself (2 times). Going by myself today, I was given a time limit before I was seated despite plenty of tables being available. I found that very strange and rude. My food came fast but the queso dip was not hot and the chips had a bit of a stale texture. I also had to get up to ask for utensils, straws and napkins as the server quickly dropped off my food and drink completely avoiding any follow up. The atmosphere is mainly thanks to the partial view of the river and city you get. Without the view the resturant is a bit sterile and characterless. Overall there are better places to go with tastier food and friendlier services. Unless you REALLY want to see the view, I HIGHLY recommend spending your hard earned cash else where. Layla, We’re grateful you shared such detailed thoughts, and I apologize that we missed the mark for you in several important ways. We would like to clarify why you would be given a time limit. We only give people time limit at a table when we are running into a large block of reservations that essentially will fill the restaurant within the next two hours. Even though there may be empty tables, there may not be a long enough time window to seat someone before the reservations come in. If we don't pay attention to reservations that are on deck we will end up not having a table for guests that planned on that time frame. So in that sense empty tables do not necessarily equal availability. Our compromise in this situation is to give people a time limit so we can still seat them with the understanding we have a reservation behind them at a particular time--otherwise we might not have been able to seat you at all in that situation. Unfortunately it seems that this was not explained adequately and that is certainly something we can improve on.
