Sad to say this place isn’t what it used to be - we had pizzas from here 18months/2years ago and they were SO good, but not the case anymore. The staff were great, super helpful with applying a discount code that wasn’t working via online ordering. The pizzas were a decent size, but the dough wasn’t the fluffy, light Nepalese style bases they used to have - and the toppings felt thrown on, with little thought behind the presentation and flavour profiles. Sadly wouldn’t return here as they’re certainly on the higher end of things paired with sub par quality Meal type: Dinner Price per person: NZ$20–30 Food: 3 Service: 5

Ordered the Three Cheese Truffle pizza and the Truffle Pancetta & Potato pizza and had a really disappointing experience. The Three Cheese Truffle pizza arrived with pesto added to it, despite pesto not being listed or requested. Unfortunately I have a nut allergy, so this caused an allergic reaction. To their credit, when we contacted the restaurant they were very apologetic and organised a refund plus a replacement pizza. However, the replacement then arrived as the completely wrong pizza — another Pancetta & Potato instead of the Three Cheese Truffle. Mistakes happen, but when allergies are involved, adding unlisted ingredients is incredibly serious. After already dealing with an allergic reaction, receiving the wrong replacement order was really frustrating and disappointing.

This shop serves exceptional pizzas and is another fantastic pizza spot in Ponsonby. I visited with my partner for our Tuesday date night. The place has a cozy atmosphere and is conveniently located near Woolworths. Their special offer of $7 per slice caught our eye. Each slice is generously sized, with four slices equaling a full pizza. We ordered eight slices, choosing four different flavors: Chili Chicken, Jalapeño Pepperoni, Spicy Bacon, and Truffle (short names). Since we both enjoy spicy food, these options were perfect. The pizzas, cooked in a fire oven, were absolutely delicious. While they weren’t particularly crispy, each slice showcased the flavors of its ingredients beautifully. I especially loved the Chili Chicken slice - it was my favourite. To complement the meal, we also ordered potato wedges, which was the perfect side dish, pairing well with the pizzas. Pizza Monkey definitely deserves more recognition. Highly recommended!
