Incredible food and wonderful service, you can tell the owner has a passion for what he does. Had the hake special and it had so much flavour. Lovely atmosphere inside too. One of the best hidden gems in Cardiff, definitely worth trying out if you're looking. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Moura is an evolving bistro in Cardiff, open for around two and a half years. The restaurant is led by a South African chef from Durban and takes its name from a Portuguese folk legend, hinting at layered cultural influences. The interior is understated and inconspicuous, with a bistro-style layout. A bar sits to the far right, while beach-toned tables and beechwood chairs soften the space. Large windows bring in plenty of light, but on colder days the dining room feels noticeably chilly. A door curtain would be a simple improvement to help retain warmth, particularly given the exposed frontage. Parking is available on the street directly outside, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. Background music leans towards relaxed 1990s tracks, adding to the casual atmosphere. The menu is concise: five starters, six mains, and two desserts, alongside ice cream options and a chef’s special dessert. There is a breakfast menu, lunch specials and also a 2/3 course dinner menu. There is also a house cocktail selection. Notably, there is no service charge. The chef was doubling up as both chef , bartender and server as it was a quiet Saturday night. Drinks The Roku Berry Sherbet cocktail (£10) is a visually appealing pink drink served in a martini glass, topped with foam. Made with ginger syrup, raspberry sauce, lemon juice, and aquafaba, it’s sweet with a gentle acidity—pleasant and refreshing, though better suited to summer. An Old Fashioned (£11) arrived instead of a requested Negroni, but it was well made and enjoyable nonetheless. Starters The Salmon Beetroot Gravlax (£10.50), served with parsley sauce, microgreens, and lemon, was fresh and well-balanced. Medium-cut salmon slices paired nicely with the sweetness of the beetroot and olive oil-based sauce. The microgreens added a subtle green note. Again, a dish that would truly shine in warmer months. Main The Slow Cooked British Beef (£26) came with rich jus, garlic-roasted baby potatoes, petit pois, salsa verde, and whipped sour cream. The beef was stewing cut and flavourful, though the Brussels sprouts could have benefited from slightly longer cooking for added tenderness. The potatoes were well roasted and satisfying, and the sauce was robust and comforting. Dessert The Chef’s Special Dessert (£9) featured berries with citrus rind, compote, and cheese. It was generous in portion and well balanced, offering freshness alongside richness without being overly sweet. Overall Impression Moura offers thoughtful, seasonal cooking with clear attention to flavour and presentation. While the ambience is pleasant, the cold interior detracts from the experience during winter months. With small adjustments to comfort and consistency in service, it has the potential to be a very solid neighbourhood bistro—particularly appealing in spring and summer.
