Mr. Chubby's Wings This place reminded me of the kind of beer and wings bars you would have found me in when I went to school in Gainesville. With its slippery, beer-soaked bathroom floors, great bar food and high energy, I loved it. This is not just a wings place. Don't underestimate the great critics among drunks. They will seek out the best wings and potato skins. You can get beer anywhere, right? Mr. Chubby's place was packed with a diverse group by age; otherwise totally representative of its north florida highway town. Don't come here for a diverse offering of microbreweries, patè or IPAs but if you like good bar food and american beers on tap, stop here. TVs line the walls. A jukebox will take your money for a song. The waitresses are very easy on the eyes. At the bar, you will find bar stools fashioned from steel kegs. Paper towel rolls on top of each table act as beacons of unpretentiousness. Each chair is fitted with a butt-magnet. You just want to stay a while even if you were just driving through. Mr. Chubby's is a definite yes. I had the chicken wings done "Chubby's Style". They were grilled and smothered in my sauce of choice. There was no fatty gristle or soft skin. They were perfectly crisped. The sauce was very good. The potato skins were good but far from great. I would recommend skipping the skins. Athens burgers looked tasty. I will return next time i'm driving through.
